In Qabalah, this journey begins in the Ain Soph (infinite potential) and creating the bolt of lightning in Kether, the highest sphere, which represents the point of origin—the very first thought of your desire for success.

Kether is the sphere of the Magician.

From Kether, this thought moves into Chokmah, where the creative force is awakened. Chokmah is the spark, the moment of inspiration, where the raw energy (the phallus) of your desire for success begins to take shape.

But this spark cannot manifest without form, and so it enters Binah, the third sphere on the Tree, often referred to as the yoni or the womb of creation.

Here, your desire is impressed into your subconscious mind, gestating and taking form before being born into the material world, Malkuth.

As your desire moves further down the Tree, it passes through Chesed and Geburah, the spheres of Jupiter and Mars, representing expansion and discipline.

In Chesed, your desire grows with benevolent energy, filled with hope and potential, like the love of a protective father.

However, as it reaches Geburah, the sphere of Mars, something critical happens—and it is here that one of the most common forms of self-sabotage occurs.

The Mental Abortion: Killing Your Desire in Geburah

Geburah is the realm of strength, discipline, and often, destruction. While this sphere holds the energy needed to cut away distractions and keep you focused, it can also become the place where you destroy your own progress.

This is what I refer to as the mental abortion.

The mental abortion occurs when, instead of using the power of Geburah to push forward with discipline and might, you begin to turn this force inward, fighting with your own desire for success.

The process of self sabotage begins.

You start to second-guess, criticize, or even resent the very thing you’re trying to achieve. In this internal battle, limiting beliefs, old traumas, and worry creep in, attacking the desire that once started in Kether. Slowly but surely, you kill off your own creative energy.

For example, imagine you have a strong desire to lead a movement and serve your kismet clients. The idea begins with excitement and inspiration (the Ain Soph), which becomes a thought impregnating your mind (Kether). This thought moves into an action phase where the creative force gets activated (Chokmah) and you start to visualize how it could take shape (Binah).

However, many experience fear as they move down the tree to the next phase of manifestation (Chesed and Geburah).

You begin to doubt yourself:
“What if I fail?”
”I’ve never been good with money.”
”I’m not experienced enough.”
”I don’t want to come off salsey.”

These are limiting beliefs—old mental patterns born from past experiences and/or societal conditioning—and they start to wage war on your dream.

Instead of using the energy of Geburah to cut away distractions and focus on your success, you use it to tear down your own desires. The battle becomes internal, and you mentally "abort" your desire, often before it has a chance to fully develop and manifest.

How to Overcome Self-Sabotage in Geburah

To stop this cycle of self-sabotage, it’s essential to recognize when you're using Geburah's energy destructively. Instead of allowing your limiting beliefs and worries to dominate, use Geburah’s power to become a warrior for your own success. Discipline your mind to remain focused on the goal, cutting away only that which does not serve your progress.

Here are two ways to shift your mindset and harness the power of Geburah positively:

Acknowledge and release limiting beliefs:
The moment you recognize thoughts of self-doubt or fear creeping in, pause. Acknowledge that these thoughts are remnants of past experiences or fears of the unknown. They do not define your present or future. Use Geburah’s energy to cut through these mental blocks by affirming your capability and worthiness for success.

Channel the warrior spirit:
Instead of fighting against your desires, fight for them. Take action, even when fear is present. Break your goal down into smaller steps, and tackle them with the precision and strength of Mars energy. Every small victory reinforces your desire, pushing it closer to full manifestation.

Success Is a Journey Through the Tree

Your success isn’t something that happens by chance, it something interal you cultivate and nourish deep within. It’s a journey down the Tree of Life, from the first spark of thought to the disciplined actions you take in your inner world. The key is to recognize where you might be sabotaging your progress, especially in the sphere of Geburah, where internal battles often lead to self-destruction.

By understanding how this energy works, you can stop “killing your desires” with limiting beliefs and begin using your inner strength to manifest the success you’re truly capable of achieving.
